Brands Hatch is one of the most iconic sporting venues in the world and can lay claim to being the busiest race circuit in Europe. Having undergone a series of major improvements in recent years, the Kent circuit now attracts some of the biggest international events on the calendar. Ever since starting out as a dirt track motorcycle circuit in 1926, Brands Hatch has been characterised by its natural ampitheatre, with virtually the entire 'Indy' configuration visible from the spectator banking and grandstands. Oulton Park |
Widely acknowledged as the most picturesque race circuit in the country, Oulton Park is recognised as much for its stunning surroundings as the spectacular racing that takes place on its hallowed tarmac. Voted the best UK circuit by BSB fans in 2007, Oulton Park features rapidly changing gradients and blind crests, and presents a supreme challenge to riders. TT Circuit Assen |
Assen is fully surrounded by grass banks and grandstands, providing excellent viewing for the hundreds of thousands of spectators who visit every year. A huge favourite with riders, Assen is well known for its festive and extravagant atmosphere. In 1999 the circuit was modified with a new grandstand, control tower, press centre and renovated pit garages. Thruxton |
Originally built in 1940 as RAF Thruxton, a World War II airfield and home to both the RAF and USAF, the site was used for troop-carrying aircraft and gliders during the D-Day landings. In 1946 it was decommissioned and from 1950 it was used for motorsport. Motorcycling was the first sport to be staged there, with four-wheeled racing commencing from 1952. Thruxton is one of the fastest circuits on the British Superbike Championship calendar and one which has hosted events as varied as World Endurance motorcycles, European F2 cars and trucks. Knockhill Racing Circuit |
Knockhill Racing Circuit in Fife is Scotland's national Motorsport centre. The circuit is located in the Fife countryside about 10 miles north of Dunfermline. The track, initially opened in 1974, is 1.3 miles long and was created by joining service roads to a nearby disused railway. Since the 1980s Knockhill has been extensively developed to a point where it is able to host rounds of most of the major British car and motorcycle racing championships. Snetterton 300 |
The British Superbike Championship round at Snetterton is one of the fastest on the calendar and with top speeds of nearly 200mph, this really is the round to see superbikes at their flat-out best. Lots of slipstreaming followed by heavy braking means that there are always plenty of overtaking opportunities at Snetterton. For sheer speed the long Revett Straight provides amazing slip-streaming action prior to the left-right flick through the Esses and the Bomb Hole where extensive works have been carried out in terms of run-off area. Silverstone |
Currently the home of the Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix, this former wartime airfield circuit can boast being one of the world's foremost motorsport venues. Silverstone hosted the first ever round of the F1 World Championship in 1948, and over the years has developed to meet the needs of the modern sporting era. The circuit held the British Motorcycle Grand Prix for a decade, following the event's switch to the mainland from the Isle of Man and has staged World Superbike Championship action in recent years in addition to the domestic series.
